Okay, sometimes when I'm asleep I can feel like I separate from my physical body sort of. I feel like I float up and then can move around. I did this a few days ago, and when I did it I actually saw the room around me. I didn't see my sleeping body or anything. And for some reason I kept going in and coming out of my body again and again and after a while it didn't work. Was this astral projection or just a lucid dream, and what is the definition of both and what is the difference?

A lucid dream is when you are aware that you are dreaming and you can manipulate the dream. Astral projection is actually leaving your body and going someplace without it. I think (and this is only my opinion) that if you were truly astral projecting you would have seen your sleeping body. I think maybe you were just dreaming.

You are going to get a lot of different answers on this one. The best thing I can tell you is to read up on it. I am not really versed enough it.

Lucid dreaming ("lucid" from Latin lucidus: "light, bright, clear") is the conscious perception of one's state while dreaming, resulting in a much clearer experience, sometimes enabling direct control over the content of the dream. The complete experience from start to finish is called a lucid dream. Stephen LaBerge, a popular author and experimenter on the subject, has defined it as "dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming."[1]

LaBerge and his associates have called people who purposely explore the possibilities of lucid dreaming oneironauts (literally from the Greek ????????????, meaning "dream sailors").

The validity of lucid dreaming as a scientifically verified phenomenon is well-established.[2][3] Researchers such as Allan Hobson with his neurophysiological approach to dreaming have helped to push the understanding of lucid dreaming into a less speculative realm.

Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) achieved either awake or via lucid dreaming, deep meditation, or the use of psychotropics. People who say they experience astral projection often say that their consciousness or soul has transferred (or copied) into an astral body (or "double"), which moves in tandem with the physical body in a "parallel world" known as the astral plane. The concept of astral projection has been around for thousands of years, dating back to ancient China.[citation needed] It is currently often associated with the New Age movement

These are from the Wikipedia and not personal beliefs but I hope they help.

Lucid dreaming is real, its when you have conscious control over what you dream and the actions that happen when you dream. Astral projection is a hallucination that isn't real.

Astral projection presumes that the human being has a subtle body akin to the soul that is able to separate from your physical body and travel to other dimensions or places in this world. Astral planes, bodies and projection are part of spiritual belief.

Lucid dreaming is a dream the same as any other dream. The body and brain enter into a different function to induce sleep and brain wave patterns change. The difference between lucid dreaming and normal dreaming is that in lucid dreams you are self aware and can control the dream. In the dream you know you are dreaming and can decide I think I'll be at the top of a building, jump off and fly and in the dream you will experience just that. In lucid dreaming you are aware and have control of the dream. This has nothing to do with spirituality. It is a physical phenomena and studied by psychology.

I can only address astral projection since that is all that I have studied. It is when your spirit leaves your body. This leaves your body open to possession by other spirits. As to which one you were doing I can not say. I personally believe that you should consider whether this is a good idea or not. There is danger involved. If someone should disturb your body while you are astral projecting it could make it difficult to return to it. It changes the conscience state of your body. Whether you continue to do it or not I suggest that you consider the cost.
